Hi! My name is Del Allen and I have been enjoying my days at Sunset Ridge and Middlefork School since 2012. I am a nationally certified school psychologist (Ed.S., NASP) with more than ten years of experience in the assessment of executive-functioning and social-emotional skills. I completed my masters in Educational Psychology at Harvard Graduate School of Education and my school psychology certification at National Louis University. I have worked as a researcher for Rush NeuroBehavioral Center, co-wrote an Executive Functioning curriculum published by School Speciality, and published several articles examining the relationship between social-emotional skills and academic outcomes (see links in sidebar). I feel very fortunate in my role, which varies each day. I spend time in classrooms, work with students individually and in small groups, and collaborate with teams to provide targeted social and emotional supports to students experiencing stress, anxiety and other mood-related issues. On a daily basis, I witnesses how lagging social-emotional skills can impact mental health and academic outcomes and am passionate about improving the quality of life for these children. Throughout the school year, I complete Special Education evaluations focused on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety/Depression, and Learning Disabilities and collaborate with grade-level teams to developed highly individualized goals, interventions, and accommodations. Additionally, I'm a member of the Social Justice committee (#d29connect) and I teach lessons in our Health program on Erin’s Law, Depression Awareness and Suicide Prevention (see examples in sidebar).

In my free time I love to play tennis, soccer and table-top games. I'm an avid Harry Potter fan. My husband and I live in Wilmette with our two energetic and hilarious girls.
